Designing grass roots customer engagement

Industrial enzymes are a tricky business. Essential to many processes that consumers take for granted, they also need to be formulated specifically for each use and used precisely to get optimum results. DuPont Industrial Biosciences was looking to connect directly with the users of their enzyme products on processing plant floors, rather than just managers in offices, in order to ensure the best results for its products, but also to create a bond with its customers. The result was the Enzylator (ENZYme calcuLATOR) app.

Designed for processing plant workers to quickly and easily verify their enzyme calculations, the app also provides a direct link to product documentation, support, and sales information. The layout is designed to walk users through the calculations in an intuitive way, verifying their input against known values for minimal errors. The calculators use large bold numbers so that readings from equipment is easily checked against the calculator's data. A bespoke set of icons was also designed to balance DuPont's corporate style with legibility at small sizes.
